Sometimes I find myalef with loads of work because I don't do it until a week before the deadline...but that's because I'm lazy :P
But other times it's just because there's so much of it...Geology is an absolute killer for practical work.
And someone help me, make my forensics exam tomorrow go away :( I thought I had Psych tomorrow. but no... I know I'll end up doing exactly what they tell us not to do, and rely on knowledge from CSI... gah :(

Whoop whoop: 2 exams down, 2 to go! *dances*

Sarai, hope examage went well today! I quite liked mine... nothing like a bit of Parliamentary Sovereignty to kick start the day. (Sad thing is that half of me is serious).

Leni, the amount of work you have depends entirely on your degree. That said, every degree takes a lot of work. But it still varies. I have friends taking English and History who are on 6 hours contact time a week, being expected to read a book/articles/journals a week and then writing an essay every three weeks.

With me I have 16 hours contact time, work for 4 modules every week, work for 5 modules every 2 weeks, and then the odd essay/assignment thrown in. On top of that I do actually have a social life...

It's all about time management, which I very much suck at, but I still get by :D. I'm sure you'd be fine. For one thing, you haven't just come out of fourteen straight years of education (for you US people, we start school at 4), which means you've had the break and time to do other things rather than just doing a run-and-gun-in-danger-of-burning-out thing.
Proof-read carefully to see if you any words out.

Yeah, I guess experience has to count for something as well! Besides, I suppose I have done some study during the intervening years - 5 years very-part-time theological stuff for preaching, and other stuff, plus loads of reading and research for projects I've been involved in at work and church, so... yeah, I AM WOMAN, and I can do it! (I think...! Hehehe)

Hope all your exams are going well, folks. Still thinking of ya!

For a living, I'm an over-achieving student. It may seem like a surprise but yes, I get As a lot. c: I never have less than 5 As in my classes, haha.

When I'm old enough to get a real job, I'll be a cashier/hospital volunteer, LOL. Just two years of absolute freedom, haha.

I'm between an underachieving and overachieving student. I get all A's in three classes, all C's in the advanced math, and anthing from A's to C's in Physics and Chemistry.

Ridiculous.

But I also have a job now (thank you to everyone who gave advice). Like PLR, though, I'm not old enough or free enough to have a real job, so I have what my boss calls "the cushiest job ever". I do filing for architects.

I was at one point in my life, pretty much the worst student ever. I'm pretty sure the issue was that I was just smart enough to know I didn't care about math.

I hate math.

Anyway, for a living I'm a Grad Student headed for a Masters in Visual Development. Basically, I want to draw for a living. To my credit though, I did contribute to society a few years ago. I was a teacher!

I taught kids how to use computers!

...Jesus....what have I done?

I believe you have contributed to the decline of modern middle-class society by feeding into the collective psyche of the technologically minded youth.

I hate math, too. I just nearly failed a trig test, and that was supposedly the "easy one", according to my maths teacher. Hm.

That said, I can BS well enough to make myself sound somewhat intelligent (as above), so my English marks make up for my failure in the math department. Or I just make so little sense that my teacher assumes I'm saying something intelligent.

And I don't think we're a good lot to chide you for teaching computing... It would be fairly hypocritical of me, at least, as I spend most of my free time on the internet.

Wooo, that one is too funny. At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I used to do the same thing.

Except I was doing it because I knew the teacher didn't have a strong command of the English Language. (The class was art history.) So most times, I was taking these tests and essay questions and leaving 1 or 2 page answers for the sole purpose of giving the teacher more work later.

I'm pretty sure it worked, to a certain degree.

I was, as some might call it, a literary jerk.

I'm the kid who hands in a 2500 word essay when the word limit is 1500. But not out of spite. I just can't shut my brain up.

If I go through and edit things, I always get them back with things like, "Expand on this point", "explain your reasoning", "use example from the text" written on them.

It's silly, really. Mostly, I just disregard word counts. I figure that by the time I'm at uni, they'll have upped the word limits to reasonable amounts and I won't have to worry about it, anymore. Hehe.

My English teacher last year gave me extra marks on the exam because he thought that my attitude towards Macbeth (as a character), was "out of left field". That, I did out of spite.

...it annoys me to no end when they expect you to answer with certain opinions.

Ha ha, unfortunately, I don't think think that will change much as life goes on. Besides that, the teacher probably read the same bloody answer hundreds of times from other students before you came along. He gets a little slack, neh?

Also, I don't claim to know much about the way universities handle word counts on essays and such. (Again, art university. I've taken one written test in my entire time here.) However, don't you think it's important to be able to communicate quickly and concisely (Under 500 words), just as well as being capable of banging out longer more detailed articles?

Although if you go to school for writing, I'm pretty sure they'll make you learn both anyway.

Oh, it's definitely worthwhile to learn to be concise. And I can be, if I really try, but that requires actual thought processes. Mostly, I need to learn that not everything needs to feel "finished".

That's my problem. It doesn't feel finished if I've been concise, becuase I'm someone who a) talkes a lot, and b) is used to backing up arguments very wordily. Partially because my Dad loves playing Devil's Advocate and making me argue, and partially because I debate a lot. Well, not this year, but I used to.

So it's more of a breaking-habit thing than a re-learning thing. Kind of. Hehe.

I've only recently mastered the art of being to the point about my writing. It took quite a few way-too-long fanfic chapters before I realized that I could say it in fewer words and then quite a while before I actually learned how.

Haha.

However I turned in a fanfic that I'd written over a year ago (in my longer winded days, for sure) for a final project grade in my Creative Writing class.

My teacher told me to get it published.

Ha-ha.

WAL*MART! *thud*

I'm a cashier. I cash people out. And I make people happy (or piss them off... depending on what day of the week it is ;-))

Hehe, I like happy cashiers. They're like happy bus drivers.

I catch the bus to school every morning, and if I have a happy bus driver, my day automatically improves. Same goes for cashiers. And cafe people.

Basically anyone I don't know but have semi-daily interaction with.
