The Fanfiction Ratings Guide (2008)

Postby adorelo on Sat May 31, 2008 10:28 pm

With all this talk of ratings around the threads, I thought it would be nice to open this thread and post the fanfiction ratings in accordance with fictionratings.com, as that's what most writers go by.

1. Fiction Rated: K

Intended for general audience 5 years and older. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, and adult themes.

2. Fiction Rated: K+

Suitable for more mature children, 9 years and older, with minor action violence without serious injury. May contain mild coarse language. Should not contain any adult themes.

3. Fiction Rated: T

Suitable for teens, 13 years and older, with some violence, minor coarse language, and minor suggestive adult themes.

4. Fiction Rated: M

Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language.

5. Fiction Rated: MA

Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes.

6. (Supplemental) Fiction Rated: B

Intended for preschool level and younger children between the ages of 1 and 4. Content should be free of any coarse language, violence, adult themes, and ideas very young children cannot comprehend.

Is it even possible to write this rating?

*Shakes head vigourously*

Nooo! Where would I be without sexual innuendoes, witty comments, the odd use of 'damn' or 'crap'? This rating is stifling. It's like Humpty Dumpty with some emotive language thrown in!

Gaaaa

Although... I guess it could be fun. Providing I had elements. And guidelines. 'Cause if given a free reign then just ugh.

I don't think I'd be able to write anything at that level... Holy crap, I can barely write K+! Hahaha.

I have a swearing problem when I write... ;)

Who doesn't have a swearing problem when it comes to fan fiction. I'm always swearing my --- off. SEE! *points at ---* Oh, wait a minute... I meant the word. I'm not actually point at my... oh, ----... FRICK! >_< I'm gonna be a really bad mod, aren't I?

Edit By LLK: To remove profanity.

Edit2: Because the X's made me feel bad. And I like hyphens. YAY HYPHENS!

I try not to actually :) But then I don't really swear much outside of the fiction world either. Even when I get really angry about something.

Sexual innuendoes on the other hand... that's my vice :P

And we need to stop now. We're setting a bad example. *hangs head in shame and apologises profusely*

Sorry bout that little freak out up there. *points at her previous post*

I feel bad. Don't follow my example. I'll be a good mod, I promise, LLK and Jodie.

I love my job. I'm always here. See. *points at post* I'm posting right now! :)

Actually one of the rules is "Absolutely no profanity." Unless it's part of a story, it's not welcome here.

Sorry.

EDIT: While I do swear in fanfictions it's not a staple. There is a difference between being IN character and being a potty mouth.
