Well, I kind of disappeared for a while. My school and work schedule have been kicking my butt all over Athens the past couple of months. Hopefully I'll have some free time to write and critique more in the months coming up. :-)

Seems like everyone's been suffering from real life lately, and that none of us have been around much - me included! Anyway, welcome back to those who've made it, and hang in there to those who're still clinging to the wreckage!! (I think I'm somewhere between the two at the moment...)

Thanks, Jude! I haven't had the internet for a few days, so that's thrown another spanner in the works. Actually, I think the works is entirely made from spanners, now. At the moment I'm in English, stooging the school's internet and having erasers catapulted at me. Anyway. To work. *Hi-ho, hi-ho*

By the way, I love that you've called it "suffering from real life". That is so, so true. I'd go on to this week's critique, but the school internet's banned FF.net (*cries*) so not so much. Just another spanner to add to the collection.

Hope everyone's doing okay.

My avatar? No idea where or what it's from - if anyone out there knows, maybe you could tell me? It's a really crappy pic of David Caruso (Horatio Caine) - but he seems to have my name tattooed on his chest! So, crappy pic or not, I thought, "I'll have that!"

Nice coincidence, there! Hehe, I'd be stoked to see something like that! (Except maybe not with Horatio Caine :P ). Haha, I've just discovered another spanner. I've finally got my internet/computer back (like an hour ago), and I'm about to leave for my grandparents' house for four days (in like ten minutes). Haha. Really, do you ever feel like all the forces are just conspiring against you?

But, today is actually warm, and it's sunny, and everything's pretty and green and overgrown because Tasmania has finally decided to accept that it's Spring (only took like a month), so I can't be mad at anything. Haha. It's a wonderful feeling, Spring. Nice change after such a drag of a Winter, too. Anyway, enough of my ranting about my sudden bouts of SAD.

Hope everyone's doing well! See y'all in a few days!

Huh. Sorry for double-posting, but I just realised that there's a great possibility that none of you know what a spanner is. Haha. Go me. It's a wrench, for those of you who don't. Is it just Australia who uses the phrase "throw a spanner in the works"? Oops.

Nope, not just the Aussies. Us British folks use the phrase too - so I knew exactly what you meant, chuck.
I just love the many and varied ways that the English-speaking world can be so divided by a common language!!

Ah! I was right! Mum was trying to convince me that it was just Australians. I'm like, "Mum, Australians may invent twenty words a day for "hello" and male genetalia, but we don't invent words for workshop tools." But you're right. I loved that when I was in the US. Every now and then I'd say something, and look around, and everyone was just staring at me blankly. Or laughing in confusion. Like, I said jumper, as in sweater, and they all thought I was talking about the baby thing. Then I said "sweatpants" here, and no one knew what they were.

Insane. Really.

Haha, but very, very amusing.

I used to have this exact same conversation with my roommate freshman year in college. She was from the UAE with a Tobagan mother, and Indian father, and British schooling and yours truly was three steps away from being a Midwestern farm girl. Since we lived on the 8th floor of our dorm, she used the word "lift" a lot and I used to tease her "it's an elevator!". I seem to remember the word "torch" used with some frequency, too, instead of "flashlight". :D

Of course, the situtaion didn't get any better the following year when my roommate was from Boston!

...and to get back on topic (smooth segue, eh?), I'm back after a long and lonely absence. It seems like things have really quieted down here, though. Major bummer

Yeah. I'm in "swatvac" at school (whatever the hell that means beyond: *FREAK OUT: EXAMS ARE NEXT WEEK*), and then I'll be in Vietnam and Cambodia for a month (can't wait!!), so things from the FCG's Southern Hemisphere'll be well quiet.

But yes, it's a "torch"! "Flashlight" implies that something's flashing... Haha. Nah, I use "flashlight" sometimes, and people think I watch too much TV. Which is true, but I learned to speak with an American father. My favourite thing, though, is the smallest little thing: I say "math", instead of "maths". Right. I use the singular, instead of the plural, and people actually NOTICE!

Freaks.

Haha. We accidentally started a huge class discussion in French last year as to whether "maths" was plural in French. (It is, by the way). Our class was too lazy to get up to get a dictionary, and our teacher was out of the room for like twenty minutes.

Yeah, there are still a few things my dad says that crack me up. He says "mate" and "g'day" and... stuff that I don't even say. It's very funny to hear naturally spoken Australianisms in an American accent.

He still says "wrench", though. Hehe.

Welcome back, Zelda. Missed you. Actually, missing lots of folks. You're right - things have been really quiet around here for the last few weeks. I guess everyone's just busy - sad to say, way too often there are more important and pressing things in life than fanfiction. ( :o eeeeeeee! Don't shoot me!)

Or maybe everyone's busy NaNoWriMo-ing just now. Anyone else doing that this time around?

I'm lurking... I'm kind of here, but I have some personal things going on, so I'm kind of hiding out, too.

Welcome back, Zelda! :D

Aw, man, I have my English exam today, but once that's over, I've got one next Wednesday, and then I'm done!! So, somewhat bad timing, but I'll be around a bit more for the next week or so, hopefully.

Hope everything's alright, Race!

Take care of yourselves, guys! =)
