You got your reading list yet? I went into Waterstones today and they have none of the insanely huge, multiple books I need.

How rubbish.

Whats up with your accomodation? It was a struggle just to get a room with ours. No readiong list, just an equipment list so far (i'm doing geology) and it's huuuge hehe.

They've oversubscribed and people are having to twin, and one of my friends just found out today that they've withdrawn their offer for her, so she now has nowhere to live for the start of term. Basically, they've well and truly sodded up.

That's ridiculous. Are they not even offering alternative accomodation like locally or something? Ugh, the people who run these things make me angry. Grrr. 27 to a kitchen apparently is legal...because they'res two ovens, two ovens! Barbaric.

I've got my driving test tomorrow...wish me luck...not that it'll help much, I suck at driving. I just wanna pass before I go to Uni!

Haha.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great.

And yeah, I think everyone I know has had problems with accommodation across the country. Stupid government and their ideas about more people going to uni... they need to make sure there's space first! Or at least provide funding for it!

She's been told she's got to rent privately, but we reckon if she kicks up enough stink about it they'll fix it. They even told her on the phone that they saw she accepted it. So it makes no sense.

I'm having to twin for the first 6 weeks at least, but I'm twin one which means I get to keep the bigger room when they leave. So I guess in the long run, it's not so bad.

Hang on a minute - you're a student. What do you need an oven for? Is there not a pizza hut nearby?!! :P

Anyway, enough stereotyping of students!! Wow - 27 to a kitchen, and letting students down with their accommodaton? This all sounds totally bonkers! You can't help wondering if the people who "organise" these things have a single brain cell between them! I live in Sheffield (big university city) and know a lot of students - you hear all sorts of things! Seems like most of them couldn't run a bath!! :!:

And LeAnne - I hope your test went well. My son just passed his CBT test so he's whizzing around everywhere on his scooter! It's barbie pink (he went for the price rather than the colour!) and he wears a bright yellow reflective jacket. He looks like a banana on a blancmange! At least other road users can see him!

Question: What is the age to drive legally in England? I'm curious... It's 16 here in the states.

Congratulations!!! Happy driving or scootering whichever the case may be. I'm thinking of getting a scooter since gas costs so much here now.

Thank you :) i'll be driving, well as long as I can insure this car. The prices are immense, and it's not a new car either hehe.

Yay! Congrats, LeAnne! :D Happy for ya! Insurance prices are way OTT though, aren't they? Mike had to pay almost as much for insurance as he paid for the scooter. The insurance companies penalise all young drivers whether they're careful or not. I'd love an insurance company to charge young drivers lower premiums, but with a HUGE excess IF they crash - then only the careless / dangerous / boy racers will be penalised. (Sorry if that sounds sexist, but certainly in the UK, the most likely to cause accidents are young men aged 17-21)

And to add to the answer about tests in England, if I may! You need a provisional license to learn to drive a car, which you can do at 17 years, but you have to pass a practical and a theory driving test to get a full license so you can drive legally on the roads on your own. At 16 you can drive a scooter or motorbike (but no more than 50cc) on a provisional license on the road (but not the motorway) but only after passing a CBT test. You then have two years to do a full test to get a full license which means you can then drive any size bike or scooter anywhere (but you have to be 17 before they'll let you do the full test).

Ehh I managed to get my insurance down to 920 pounds, but that's with an excess of 500 if I claim, and it's only 3rd party, fire and theft :S I only paid a grand for the car lol, its a 2000 ford fiesta something or other.
I love her though hehe, named her Violet (the car's blue but I think I've been influenced by my choice of fandom for this weeks challenge)
As for that, I still haven't finished my piece, we're having half the garden dug up because my mother hasdecided she want a garage built, and this big digger thingy makes so much noise grr, and I've been at work all day, but it's over 1000 words long and it's got the included element in it, so I'm allowed to submit what I've got? Hehe, I hope so.
And back to the car insurance, Leni that's a great idea :) and fairer too. I like to think I'm a safe driver, but I know people who are really not safe at all :S

About driving... Here, we can drive in the age of 18 if we pass two tests (regulations and practical). I started my driving lessons two weeks ago. My instructor keep telling me I should move to England because I always try to drive on the left side of the road. I have a question. I've heard that, in US, you're all driving automatic cars. Is it true? Some people that I know, who live in States, had problems when they came here, because they had American license, and police here wouldn't allow them to drive, because they passed their exam on automatic car. I, myself, would love if we could all drive automatics, because I hate clutch...

^^It's not true. You have the choice between standard and automatic. :)
Dean: Talking to a messenger of God on a cell phone. It's kind of like watching a Hell's Angel riding a moped.
Castiel: This isn't funny, Dean. The voice says I'm almost out of minutes.

haha I don't think I've driven anywhere without stalling the car at least once (usually when I'm parking lol) and I'd love to drive an automatic, that however is cureently not the case because my little Violet is a manual.

Haha I hate parking! Life would be so much more simple if you could take a personal parker with you everywhere.

I love it when you can drive straight through one parking space into another - then you don't usually have to straighten up. Actually forward parking is fine; it's the reversing stuff I hate.
