Challenge #9

The Rules: *please see the site main page for any extra information on rules.*

1. Everyone is allowed to participate.
2. You will have until Saturday to write your piece.
3. IF you write a piece and submit it to me you MUST critique next week. No exceptions.
4. When you've written your piece please PM me a link to it.
5. Next week I'll assign everyone who has written a piece someone else's to critique.
6. Have fun!
7. No challenge element is set in stone, but don't bend it TOO much.
8. Can be written for ANY fandom you so choose, so have fun with it!

The Challenge:

1. Must include the phrase: “That's not like you.”
2. Must be any one of the following: Angst, Romance, Humor, Songfic, or Horror.
3. Must involve the presence (or lack of presence) of an animal.
4. Must be a minimum rating of K and a max rating of M.
5. Each Segment must be exactly 1,000 words. Critiquers I expect you to check them on this! :-D

This story may be as many or as few segments/parts/chapters as you want but each one must be exactly 1,000 words long. Hope that's not too hard for you!

I can't wait to see what you all have in mind for us!

Also I received a request/question about the use of original fiction in this challenge. I'm going to say not this time. We will be using original fiction in the future here at the FCG, but not quite yet. So, be looking for that in the future.

Happy Writing!

-LLK

Me too! I think/hope. I'm going to try to get most of it finished today so I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the week.

Might not be so simple though...

I'm in, got it finished. Just need to get it tweaked and such.

I hope I can be in on this one - I like the sound of it, especially the "exactly 1,000 words"!

I think I have a ten minute window in my diary on Thursday night, so I'll get to it then!!

Good luck, Leni. I hope you find the time - your stories are always great to read. But don't fret if you don't have time.

...there's always next time.

*Lightening, thunder, hounds baying in the moors, evil chortling, etc.*

Ahem. Anyway.

Nice to see enthusiasm, ThePeril! Mostly because I just love. Challenges. And partially because I'm so tired right now that I'm slightly hyperactive. Funny how that works, isn't it? Hm.

Makes one wonder...

I'll keep my fingers crossed about being in this one... haha. This one looks like it's going to be hard for me, considering I'm not all that wordy in my segments ;)
Dean: Talking to a messenger of God on a cell phone. It's kind of like watching a Hell's Angel riding a moped.
Castiel: This isn't funny, Dean. The voice says I'm almost out of minutes.

I've finished. But it's a fandom I haven't ever written for before, so I'm not sure what to think about it just yet. I'll let you know if I'm actually submitting it when I've had time to have it looked over by a beta.

I'm happy about it though. I feel good that I managed to complete it. :-D

Okay after like two hours of fighting with the word count on my piece I've finally gotten confirmation that it is indeed 1,000 words.

(Which is what it claimed to be when I went to bed last night.)

So... I'm posting proof.

Everyone behold my proof! My story *is* exactly 1,000 words.

This is all.

Haha, nicely done, LLK! Does anyone else notice that word couts on Microsoft Word and on FF.net are different?

That's going to get tricky.

Haha. Know what else has a different count? Write or Die. And so does OpenOffice. So, of the four sources I was using to get a count for my story all of them were telling me different things.

Finally I managed to make FF.net and OpenOffice agree that I was at the count I wanted, so I went with it.

As mine is going to be several sections, each of 1,000 words, this could get tricky!! Iknow the English-speaking world is "a nation divided by a common language", but you'd think we could all at least COUNT the same, for heaven's sake!

Anyway. Off into the sunshine for an afternoon off, then back to finish my fic tonight! This is such a good challenge, LLK - who's idea was it, I wonder?

It was my idea! :-D

Well to be perfectly honest it's a combination of my idea and one that Racefh853629 had the other day when we were talking on instant messenger.

Aw man! This one sounds like fun--aside from having software that can't even count properly (the math teacher part of me is having a screaming fit right now, lol). Unfortunately, I've got to finish getting ready for summer camp (my job for the next 7 weeks--with which I could use your help: see my post in the General Discussion section) and I don't have time...or an idea :P

I'll try to read them when I get a chance, though--the stuff that comes out of these challenges is always good!
